April 6, 2011: Guyana to host Caribbean Tourism Organisation's Sustainable Tourism Conference in 2012.
Guyana will host the 13th Annual Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development (STC-13) next year.
Bermuda's Director of Tourism William Griffith passed the symbolic Sustainable Tourism Scroll to the Deputy Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority, Tameca Sukhdeo-Singh, at the closing of STC-12 in Bermuda today.
"It is with great pleasure that I accept the distinguished honour of hosting STC 13 in Georgetown Guyana, next year. With this scroll comes great responsibilities and Guyana is eager take the mantle and continue hosting a successful and memorable STC 13.
Bermuda has done a wonderful job in hosting a productive and successful STC 12 , so we have to rise to the challenge and continue the standards set by them," Ms. Sukhdeo-Singh said. "Guyana’s tourism product has its genesis in sustainable tourism development. From the inception, the government realised that we needed to place our focus on developing a tourism product that protected our environment. Hence, we followed in the footsteps of sustainable tourism. This placed us in an advantageous position because we offer a multifaceted product to our tourists, both international and domestic."
The CTO believes that STC-13 will inderscore the diversity of the Caribbean's tourism product and highlight the attributes of a destination with vast natural resources and large-scale eco-systems.
“Guyana’s emergence as an attractive tourism destination is a tribute to the quality of their natural assets, and their commitment to sustainability. On behalf of CTO, I am pleased to accept Guyana’s offer to host the 2012 conference,” CTO Chairman Hon. Richard "Ricky" Skerritt said ahead of the annoucment.

April 3, 2011: The Evergreen Adventures welcome theM/V Clelia II Cruise Ship to Guyana
With a crew of 60 and 78 passengers on board, the M/V Clelia landed on the shores of Guyana on April 3, 2011. This cruise ship began its journey from Brazil, and then landed in Argentina, where it continued along the path into Guyana. After departing Guyana, the M/V Clelia II visited Venezuela, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad before ending its journey in Suriname.

Through the aspices of a public - private sector partnership, the Wilderness Explorers; ground handlers, the officials of Guyana National Shipping Corporation ; Docking Agents, the Ministry of Tourism, the Guyana Tourism Authority, THAG and the media, the Captain, crew and guests were given a warm welcome to Destination Guyana.
Mr Haralsingh was quoted as saying that the Ministry and GTA willcontinue to receive yachts, and we are becoming more and more known as a cruise destination, and we hope that [you] will continue to put Guyana on your catalogue and will continue to promote and market our destination.
Captain of ‘Le Levant’; Van Danne Rogers, added that even though the passengers will only be treated to a city tour, he is confident they will enjoy the city and culture. He further explained that this is the ship’s first voyage to Guyana, and he is excited to hear the feedback from the passengers when they return from their city excursions. “Our company,” he said, “is going to many places in the world, including Europe, Canada, the Amazon and the Caribbean, and for myself, it is the first time that I am arriving in your country, and I am very proud to bring the ship here.” Captain Rogers said that after the passengers would have related their experiences and impressions, a report will then be sent to the tour operators here, Wilderness Explorers.
The maximum capacity of the ship is 99 persons, but the cruise, which has been conducted in the off-season, only has a passenger count of 34.

February, 8, 2011, the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana hosted a Press

Conference to announce the Signing of the five (5) year Agreement with Advertising and Marketing Services for the production of the Explore Guyana Magazine; The Official Guide to Guyana. The Agreement was signed by Mr Paul Stephenson on behalf of THAG and Mr Vickram Singh on behalf of AMS Guyana.
Mr Stephenson also took the opportunity to review the 2010 programme and address concerns affecting the industry in 2011.

On January 26, 2011, the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana and the Ministry of Home Affairs have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The Objective of the MOU is to :

To develop a consciousness of the importance of security within the Tourism and Hospitality Sector bearing in mind that the Tourism and Hospitality Industry is expanding in Guyana.

To share ideas and discuss on the way forward to enhance the security arrangement within the Tourism Sector through a Memorandum of Understanding.

The announcement by Mr Lloyd Davis, Public Relations Officer of the Guyana National Bureau of Standards on Friday May 14th edition of the Kaieteur News regarding the passage of the Standard for Bed and Breakfast, was a welcome one.
